I am going to be doing an internship at a hospital’s health informaton department. The dress code is business casual. I am looking for inexpensive (similar to Kohls pricing or cheaper) stores to buy some clothing from. I don’t want anything skimpy; I want to look professional, but still wear clothes that are appropriate for my age (I’m 22). Any ideas?

It sounds like you have the right idea for department stores.
I’ve found some of my best clothing at second hand stores.
Value Village has the lower prices. I prefer to pay a little more
at Good-Will when they have what I’m looking for.

Question–: Woman’s Business Casual Sock Rules?
Hello,
I know that with business casual in the past, a woman should match her pants to her sock color or she can match her socks to her shoes. Black pants and black shoes= black socks. Is this idea outdated?
Most men that dress in business casual can either wear black socks or no socks. Can a woman wear nude colored dress socks with black pants and black shoes? white socks? Any other color than black?
Sometimes I feel like black socks and black pants look funny with black socks. Is that because it is old fashioned? Most girls at my office don’t even wear socks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your company dress code allows it you can go without socks or pantyhose. Yes I think that black socks with black pants and shoes is outdated, boring, and I don’t think it looks very fashionable. Try wearing trouser socks that have black with other colors in them too or neutral color with black accents in them. You could wear knee high pantyhose. White socks would look bad. Nude socks would be better if they have some other colors in them perhaps with black accents.

I would wear a neutral, coordinating color – like gray with black pants and shoes or tan with brown, etc. – or hosiery type socks depending on the type of shoes. I wouldn’t wear white socks with black pants and shoes.

Thin knee-length socks, or knee-length nude stockings are the right thing to wear with business casual slacks.
I have large feet, so I have to buy my knee-length dress socks in the men’s department. Smaller sizes are widely available in drug stores, Wal*Mart, and even grocery stores. Some of them have interesting subtle patterns.
The no-hosiery look is common, in both senses of the word.

Going without hose or socks is too casual for work. It belongs at the beach, even if you have nicely pedicured toes and pretty strappy sandals (those are too casual for work too–your shoes should have a closed toe and heel).
As long as you are wearing black shoes with your black socks and black pants, you’re okay. Nude knee highs would be another option. That’s what I wear most of the time.
