When I was out west I used to shop at Ross “dress for less” but I looked online and the closest one to me is three and a half hours away in New Jersey. Whenever I get clothes at TJ Maxx or Wal-Mart they shrink after I wash them a couple of times. I am beginning a new job next week and have not had any success finding clothing in the mall (everything seems like club wear or lounge wear). Does anyone have any suggestions
I realize that these stores…like all stores, don’t Manufacture clothing Alan. They do however make the choice to purchase poor quality items. The items you buy there are “cheap” because they do not cost a lot and do not last for long.
The Ross store that I fondly remember from out west is a lot like the TJ Maxx stores that are everywhere out here, HOWEVER their purchasers made the CHOICE to provide quality items at a discounted price. Maybe you should not answer questions that you do not know anything about.
I will look into washing my clothes in cold water…usually I do wash them in warm. Thank you Alan.

the problem is not the store, it’s how you’re washing your clothes.
TJ Maxx, Wal-Mart, and Ross don’t make clothes. So it’s not the stores fault.
I wash my clothes in cold water and line dry them. I have never had a problem with shrinking. If ever my clothes did shrink, i would know that it was my fault. Clothes shrink in heat: warm water and a warm dryer. It’s in the nature of fabrics to shrink or stretch and it is up to the person who uses this fabric to maintain it well enough so that the shrinking or stretching isn’t to drastic.
It is not the manufacturer’s or stores fault for your shrinking garment, shrinkage and stretching is something that is natural.
Unless you buy man-made fiber clothes, you cannot say your cotton dress is not going to shrink because it’s a Jil Sander, for Raf Simmons has no power or magical voodoo to say “this garment will not stretch for i am Raf Simmons.” It doesn’t work this way.
I was merely hinting that maybe in order for your clothes to last, turn down the temperature of your washer and dryer.
Unfortunately, you took my statement as an offence, bruising your ego because you are TERRY and shrinking clothes is beneath you.
LET GO OF YOUR EGO, ATTITUDE, AND CYNCISIM, for not everyone is trying to cause harm onto you, some people might want to help you.

I was invited by to go to see an opera with my friend. He is majoring in Vocal Performance and his French Diction class is invited to go to see Samson et Delilah happening tomorrow. The opening night for this opera is this Thursday, but the class is going to the dress rehearsal. I asked him what would be appropriate to wear and his teacher said it is not formal attire required. My friend told me to not dress over the top, but to not be too casual.
I am looking for suggestions on what to wear. I would like some suggestions that have jeans in them, too. For instance, jeans + nice top. I just not sure what kind of top to wear. I don’t want to look too overdone, but also not sloppy. Any suggestions with skirts (not demin, though) are welcome as well as women’s dress pants. I don’t really want to wear a dress as I think that will be too “dressy.” I also would like opinions on what, if any, jewelry I should wear or keep minimal.

i went to the boheme recently and i saw many people dressing like you would at an office, and also the little black dress with a pashmina over it, a total hit, i wore a cute dressy top (2 colors) with a black short wool jacket, some denim jeans and black heels, but i would go with the little black dress

Not sure what the weather is like in your area, but if it’s cool right now, I’d go with jeans or dressy khakis, dressy boots, cream colored tank top covered up by a nice sweater coat.
Go to an Express store, they have a lot of nice clothes for these kinds of things.

all you have to do is buy any dark color dress or skirt and shirt and a little high heals and you straight but don’t get overdress to hurt yourself because you’ll be sitting down for a long time

No jeans, not to anything that involves classical music. Classy is the aim. A solid color bottom, either tailored pants or a pencil skirt, in a matte fabric, no silk or satin. On top a solid color in a piece with a bit of visual interest, a nice collar, seaming, gathering, anything with detailing on it. A dress isn’t too dressy, as long as it’s knee or a bit longer in length, with a higher neckline and wide shoulders or sleeves. Florals would look a bit not- frumpy –but perhaps matronly. You’ll be sitting for a while, so wear something that doesn’t wrinkle easily, perhaps with a touch of stretch.
For jewelry wear one bold piece, such as earrings or a bold neck-piece, stay away from bling. brushed metallics, burnished metals, or focal point beads. Err on the side of “less is more” in accessories and err on the side of “too dressy” especially if yu aren’t completely sure what everyone else is wearing. No one has ever been embarassed by being slightly over dressed, but being underdressed, that can be embarassing.
