Q&A–: Why do Muslim women of today dress modestly like the bible says, and not the Christian women of today?
I dont understand, Paul wrote about how women should dress, and there’s probably more writings of how women should dress in the OT.

So why do Muslims follow what is written, and not the Christian women who it was written for?

The following is the answer: (Hint: The correct answer provided by the users, does not guarantee the right.)

Answer by Jeff Wisdom
Its all part of the “Great Falling away”that Paul spoke of read what the prophet Isaiah said of the women who would Callthemselves Christians in the last days in Isaiah chapter three

Answer by Frank S
Maybe Muslim woman are then more religious than the so called Christian woman?

Answer by A Pregnant!! Christian
Because they just plain don’t want to. They like to ignore those passages and say it was only written for believers back then. That’s what everyone says when what they really mean is “obeying that verse would be too hard and no fun, and I don’t want to”. It’s easier to just go with the flow and wear what everyone else is wearing, and blame any lustful thoughts that one’s clothing causes on the man.

Answer by divina
Good question, good point.

I am currently striving to dress in female clothing (no more pants) and to make more modest choices.

I respect the women who have already succeeded in this worthwhile task.

it is easier for us all to stay safe from the worst parts of men if we don’t go waving steak at the tigers.

LOL
Didnt see the part where it says “Cover thine whole body for men not to lust on thee”. That body covering is a little over the edge; Afghan women are even raped with the face covered and no body part outside the clothes.

Answer by Veritas
The women at my Church DO dress modestly and wear a head covering, but I know this is not true in all Christian churches.

Peace be to you all+

Answer by shirl_goldilocks
Because a Muslim woman will be beaten up or have her throat cut if she doesn’t dress modestly!

Answer by ?
Freewill….outwardly following strict rules of a religion does not mean the heart too follows the God of that religion…you can tell a lot more about a person through their actions than you will by the way they dress…

Question–: Why do many American think it’s wrong for the Muslim women to dress in a modest way?
Even though the Bible asked women to dress appropriately, many people think it’s wrong to dress in a respectful way. Do women have to show their body in order to receive respect in this society?

The answer in the following: (Hint: The reader is not the correct identification.)

Answer by Blondie7
its not about showing your body. its about equality. men can dress how they like and how they are comfortable… so why cant women? its demeaning to be FORCED to dress a way that you might not want to, and not even have a choice.

Answer by skeptical
Most Americans have become so accustomed to immodesty, they don’t recognize it for what it is.

Even when things are morally neutral, it’s human nature to dislike things that are different.

When things are NOT morally neutral (like modesty), it’s human nature to resent those who hold to a higher standard.

Either way, the result is that you get attacked. Verbally and emotionally, if not physically.

To make matters worse, most Americans are VERY ignorant about the issue. Most assume (as you can see from other answers) that a woman who dresses modestly is being FORCED to do so. It is completely incomprehensible to them that a woman would WANT to dress modestly.

It’s really a defense mechanism of sorts. If they admit, even to themselves, that there might be women who WANT to be modest, it immediately hits their conscience, and they don’t like that one bit!

So, they attack.

Sadly, this is true even of MOST who call themselves Christians.
Don’t let it bother you. YOU are not the person with the problem!

Answer by Shrubbs
I don’t think it’s wrong

But I believe that it is not necessary for women to overdo it, such as wearing burkas/hijabs. Be comfortable, you can be respected as long as you don’t dress provocatively.

Answer by mystic
I think showing your body in public is disrespectful.. of yourself of others. Couldn’t tell you how many women I see that I wish I could see less of! I have a deep respect for those Muslim women that dress modestly. I would be an American woman just fyi.

EXEMPTIONS GIVEN TO WOMEN IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCE.

Women are exempt from:

a.. Fasting when they are pregnant or nursing or menstruating,
b.. Praying when menstruating or bleeding after childbirth,
c.. The obligation to attend congregational prayers in the mosque on Fridays.
d.. They are not obliged to take part as soldiers in the defense of Islam, although they are not forbidden to do so.
But under normal circumstances they are allowed to do all the things that men do.

- Even when they are menstruating, on special days, like the two Eid festivals, they are still allowed to come to the Eid prayers, and menstruating women can take part in most of the actions of the Hajj pilgrimage.

Islamic laws does not requires that women should confine themselves to household duties.

Muslim women have [and are as well] headed Islamic provinces [and states as well], like Arwa bint Ahmad, who served as governor of Yemen under the Fatimid Khalifahs in the late fifth and early sixth century.

Name any other religion, political theory, or philosophy which offers such a comprehensiveness to women by giving her total control of her life and affairs ??? NONE

Think on this!

Answer by poetiq76
Not to sound abrasive, but I must first address Blondie’s response. Men cannot dress the way they want and get away with it. If anything, it is the opposite. In an office setting, women can wear business shorts and dresses and tank tops (2″ straps of course) and some women even go beyond to allow a lot of cleavage to show while men are forced into a tie and slack or polo shirts and slacks type of dress. They cannot wear open toed shoes but women can so no – the standard is not set as described by Blondie.

Now – to address your question – not all Americans believe it is wrong for Muslim women to dress modestly. Americans do not fully understand why a woman should have to dress as covered as Muslim women do. The women in America fought to break away from their (what I believe to be) God given role. They didn’t like the work of keeping their homes in order and catering to their families needs. In stead, they fought the men for their positions and said “we can do it better” and they came out of the homes and did such an excellent job – but at the cost of our families stability and wholesome upbringing. Once they got out in the world, they soon learned how to use their beauty and sexuality to get a foot into and “make it” and even accel in the man’s business world – not to say that brains had nothing to do with it but a woman’s dress/atire can make or break an impression. American women have forgotten what it means to be sexy and who we’re to be sexy for. We’re too busy trying to be sexy for everyone. We often confuse sexy with slutty and are misappropriating our use. Women want to be sexy so they expose more and forget that less is more. A man is attracted to the mature woman who can be the sexy or slutty BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. Because men are visual and heads are easily turned by what is attractive, women misuse their body to attract attention in non-sexual settings (such as the business place and even as common as the mall). I’ve always said that if you want a whoremonger, dress like a whore and unfortunately, the American tolerance for modesty is so low that a woman cannot dress modestly and conduct herself as a moral woman without being considered a prude. This my dear is one American woman who values a Muslim woman who can keep herself respectfully hidden from the rest of the world, only to be the vision of womanly beauty for her husband.

default muslim women dressWhy do Muslim women of today dress modestly like the bible says, and not the Christian women of today?

boxing legend Muhammad Ali defends Muslim women from wiki The word “hijab” or “ḥijāb” (Arabic: حجاب, (he-zjab)pronounced [ħiˈʒæːb] / [ħiˈɡæːb]) refers to both the head covering traditionally worn by Muslim women and modest Muslim styles of dress in general. The Arabic word literally means curtain or cover (noun). Most Islamic legal systems define this type of modest dressing as covering everything except the face and hands in public.[1][2] According to Islamic scholarship, hijab is given the wider meaning of modesty, privacy, and morality;[3] the word for a headscarf or veil used in the Qur’an is khimār (خمار) and not hijab. Still another definition is metaphysical, where al-hijab refers to “the veil which separates man or the world from God.”[2] Muslims differ as to whether the hijab should be required on women in public, as it is in countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia; whether it should be banned in schools, as it is in France and Turkey; or whether it should be left for the women to decide. Etymology and meaning According to the Encyclopedia of Islam and the Muslim World, the meaning of hijab has evolved over time: The term hijab or veil is not used in the Qur’an to refer to an article of clothing for women or men, rather it refers to a spatial curtain that divides or provides privacy. The Qur’an instructs the male believers (Muslims) to talk to wives of Prophet Muhammad behind a hijab. This hijab was the responsibility of the men and not the wives of Prophet Muhammad
