It is obvious that both factions are expected to exercise the same amount of humility and servitude. Anyone with an iota of salt in his/her head can figure that. I feel it is a modesty thing. They are trying not to call attention to their bodies by covering anything that may cause men to be attracted to their bodies. Look at the way we dress, it compliments our body and makes it appealing to the eye. I feel they are covering their bodies out of respect for God or their husbands.

Yeah i got your point. Im in middle east for 5 years now.
Muslim women wears diffrent kind of clothing to cover their selves. Not necessarily to cover the whole face and hands.
Some Muslim women dressed like nuns, simply because the idea is to hide their body to men’s eyes and not to provoke any sexual senses.

it seems as though it has become more popular to wear less clothes, and unpopular to dress modest. the muslim womens dress, is not much different than, mother theresa dress or how mary the mother of jesus dressed….so what is the problem really? must we get naked to be cool?
for those who define our covering as oppresive, what is the bases for that arguement? in our holy book God has commanded us to dress this way, this is not a demand of or husbands, but it is a comand from our lord, that we are pleased to honor

I think it’s more of an issue of the equality of men and women. It doesn’t seem right that in 2006, women find it necessary to abide by rules that were developed for a much different society.

one of the weirdest and unatural things about it is that these women live in some of the hottest climates in the world, if you check out other cultures and tribes that live in the rainforests and tropical areas of the world, you’ll notice that they actually do wear next to nothing, the men, women and children, walk around nearly naked, so in the middle east where temperatures can get way into the hundreds, to see the men wearing thing white robes and sandles versus the women completely in black head to toe, you tend to wonder how they arent melting, but since most women are told not to leave their house, they can melt in there too

I have no problem with the way anyone dresses as long as they are adequately covered. Yesterday I was in a store with friends and saw several women wearing low cut pants too tight with flesh hanging out and over their belts. (In many parts of Texas, we are still warm enough to go without coats during the afternoon) I would rather see a woman covered than have to look at a slob. I love being sexy while being covered. Never found it necessary to have my rear hanging out to be sexy and attractive.

I have a problem with anyone walking into a bank or store with their face covered. They look like robbers.
It is also meant to separate a woman from society and that is contrary to western culture. If you really want to live that way, you should stay where it is acceptable. I wouldn’t move to Saudi Arabia.

its not the cover of the body that most people have problem with, in fact, most Asian cultures discourage lack of clothing, although the younger generation prefer to follow the Spiritual path of MTV ha ha.
To me its neither wrong nor right to wear more or less clothing its individual rights and preferences.
I believe people ONLY have a problem when, a Muslim woman wears an opaque veil to cover her face, for one you can’t really tell who is who? And also, where does one draw the line, for example in certain states and countries, one is not allowed to wear a helmet that shields the eyes or face when entering a bank, do people who wear the full cover hijab have to remove them at the door of a bank? or are they not allowed to use banking services?
I dont see people having any problems with Sikh wearing a turban, or Monks ( of eastern and western traditions ) wearing robes but if someone walks into a bank with a Ski Mask…. now THAT might become a question mark….
There has to be some compromise from both sides, otherwise its just gonna be a debate from parallel perspectives.
add: In almost all the south east asian countries there is no problem with Islamic Modesty dressing, Women with the hijab cover up but reveal their faces… no problems there. But, as stated above a minor problems happens even in these areas when dealing with official documentations ONLY WHEN a full veil is employed to cover all the way up to, leaving only their eyes. Even in asia, people get a little edgy with the full covering especially when they walk about at night

Because they don’t know enough about their own religion to know that the bible also orders them to dress modestly

It’s ok in their own land but when you voluntarily go and live in another country where everyone does not dress like that, then the message is: I refuse to integrate in your society. I look down on your ways. People, there is NOTHING WRONG with not covering your face if you are a woman. The message we get from them is that there is SOMETHING WRONG with woman who do not cover their face. We should not have to suffer the derision of muslim men for our dress which in our own country is considered proper by everyone else.
