So we were pleased to get the last two bunks on the Rajdahni Express which promised to whisk us to Goa in around 27 hours – not bad considering the journey from Delhi to Margao is over 2100 kilometres, and positively warp-speed relative to most of the other trains we’ve used! We knew food was included in the ticket price, although admittedly we did raise an eyebrow when, as well as our passport details and preference for upper or lower bunks they asked if we were veg or non-veg. What we weren’t expecting though was the amazing level of service we received: we were treated like (very hungry) royalty. During our time on board we were given: 3 three course meals (soup with breadsticks, thali with three separate vegetable dishes and then ice-cream or pudding), bed tea, breakfast, and my personal favourite – 4 o’clock tiffin with sandwiches (crusts removed), a pasty, slice of cake and a cup of tea. The rest of the time we just had to make do with drinks brought around every hour or so. The motto on our serviettes said it all really – “Service ’til Eternity …
