I think I invented new curses while attaching the top band to the bodice. But I love the dress, so it was worth the trouble! Blogged.

This seamless texture was illustrated by Patrick Hoesly a Kansas city based illustrator specializing in architectural illustrations and graphic design.

What is a Seamless Texture / Pattern?
A seamless texture is an special image, where one side of a image exactly matches the opposite side, so that the edges blend into each other when repeated. Seamless textures are used for desktop wallpaper, webpage backgrounds, video games, Photoshop fills and in 3D rendering programs.

How did you make it?
This texture was made using software specially designed to aid in seamless texture creation. Some of the programs I’ve use are Photoshop, Illustrator, Filter Forge, Genetica, Image Synth, Alien Skin, Topaz Labs, Imagelys, and even a pen and paper.

I Originally Wanted To Put A Pickle On The Dress

Sophie didn’t want a pickle. So I used the "pickle" fabric to dress up some patch pockets (all self-drafted in about the time it’s taking me to write this photo description out). I also did a little decorative stitch at the neckline, sleeve hems, and skirt hem.

Today was sort of warm enought to bust out the linen! Found this vintage (40s? 50s?) linen sailor dress at my local vintage shop in Newport. It came with a tie and belt! Someone at work said the colors of the check matched my hair. Whatever. I have red hair and the checks are pink but hey, close enough.

    This is beautiful, Kelly.

  4. Gorgeous details. Plus I like how the dress, in its very design, is a testament to her independence (because she wants it for bus fare, I mean).

  5. Pretty details–I love the texture of the fabric.

I love that I sew enough my kids always freely design their own details. Thank you for the compliments!

  7. Very pretty. I love that decorative stitching.

Thank you, spotted turtle! When I first did the sleeve hems (I do them after finishing sleeve seams and set the sleeves in the second-to-last thing on the dress, just before the skirt hem) I wasn’t sure if I liked it. My husband Ralph said they looked "Druidic" (is that an adjective?) which although not bad, is not what I wanted. I think the batik polka dots belay that effect.

    Thank you for your comment!
