Go to Google and type “knitting pattern shawl free” into the search box. You’ll get lots of good links for shawl patterns. I’ve gotten better results by typing the nouns first when looking for anything that’s free, so I don’t get ads for all sorts of freebies I don’t want. This is how I get my knitting patterns when I need one. The above-mentioned Lion Brand link is only one of many good ones you’ll find this way.

The major yarn company’s offer free patterns on their websites all you have to do is type in the company’s name ~ Lionbrand, Bernat, Carron, Red Heart, ext. There are also many other sites like, knitty.com, Dailyknitter.com. You could also join a yahoo group for knitting and they almost always have links to dozens of websites offering free patterns. You could also go to the library and check out some knitting books which have great patterns, you’ll be able to find some really great books in your local library. BTW you can request books on the libraries website, which is another great source. Hope this helped, Good luck!

Try making “Grannie-squares”, or other types of patterns for squares you may have. Fasten together but leave a hole in the middle for the head to go through.
