I need an answer as soon as possible, the wedding is tomorrow night and I hadn’t put much thought into what my hubby and myself would be wearing. Would slacks and a short sleeved button up be okay for him? And for me a nice summery dress to my knees with sandals or nice flip flops?
The ceremony is at 6pm and it’s in Southern California if that makes any difference.

Don’t wear flip flops to a wedding no matter how nice the flip flops may be! Wear pretty, strappy sandals to pair with your summer dress.

formal attire for women–: what is formal attire for woman & men?
i am going to an event at a millitary base where a medal is being given to my husbands grandfather. they say it is formal is a mid length shirt formal or does it need to be a dress? how long of a dress? does anyone know and…. for guys is that mean tux or can they wear a suit?

Is there someone going to the event that you could ask?
Your mother-in-law, someone else you know is invited?
Is there some sort of event coordinator that would be able to give you some guidance?
If it was me and I couldn’t get any input, I’d go with a dress – as simple and elegant as possible .. and likely try for mid calf. For your husband, I’d assume a dark suit is ok.
But as I type this I think ‘how awful to walk in in a street length dress and all the other women are in evening gowns and the men in tuxes (sp?)’ – someone involved must know – this must be pretty common in the military.

Formal attire is fairly specific. I’d have to see what skirt you are talking about to be sure but I doubt it.
Formal- men will be in tuxes, military dress, or a dark full suit and tie. But it would be black, buttoned, and probably with the vest. Women think expensive cocktail dress, bridesmaid gown, or prom. That is formal. Oscars or Tony awards are formal.
It would be really hard to make a skirt formal though it can be.
