Q&A–: I love heels but recently I have falen in love with ballet flats. What are the fashion rules?
Can I wear the flats with any outfit that I used to wear heels with? What about skirts and capris? Are there any fashion faux pas with ballet flats?
Just a comment but after wearing heels for years it feels really odd to wear flats every day!

flats are mostly look good on people with long, skinny legs.
unlike heels, they do not elongate the leg and your leg is just flat so they’re a general no-no for people with large legs/are small.
Answer by I<3 Me
Ballet flats are my favorite. You can wear it casually or professionally. I wear them to work with a nice fancy pant you can even wear them with Capri’s for the summer and as for skirts I don’t think they are suitable for long/short skirts it tends look a little off. Try wearing some fancy shoes with a tiny heel.

i think ballet flats look great with everything, but i think they look best dressed down. i don’t like them with evening clothes and such. i love ballet flats with a great pair of capris or leggings. they look best when you wear something that shows off the fact that they’re flat. otherwise, if you hide the fact that they have no heel, it will just make your legs look stumpy.

Down downgrade your looks wearing flats…
Flat will never look better than heels, is something everybody knows but no one will tell you… Just think about the professional and feminine impression that you will loose… Just don’t be surprised about how society looks at you if you shift to wear flats everyday… Remember that… Do as you please but that’s the way life works for girls…

High-heeled footwear (often abbreviated as high heels or simply heels) is footwear that raises the heel of the wearer’s foot significantly higher than the toes. When both the heel and the toes are raised equal amounts, as in a platform shoe, it is technically not considered to be a "high-heel"; however, there are also high-heeled platform shoes. High heels tend to give the aesthetic illusion of longer, more slender and more toned legs. High-heels come in a wide variety of styles, and the heels are found in many different shapes, including stiletto, pump (court shoe), block, tapered, blade, and wedge.
According to high fashion shoe websites like Jimmy Choo and Gucci, a "low heel" is considered less than 2.5 inches) (6 centimeters), while heels between 2.5 and 3.5 inches (8.5 cm) are considered "mid heels," and anything over that is considered a "high heel"[citation needed].
Although high heels are almost exclusively worn by girls and women, there are shoe designs worn by both genders that have elevated heels, including cowboy boots and cuban heels.

Seldom does this work. It would always have to be short socks and of thin material, specially designed and not plain. The skirt of the dress normally would have to be mid-calf, but there are some styles which are shorter which would work. It really comes down to an individual thing, a particular blending of the shoe and dress. The type and style of sock worn would always depend on those factors.

heels with leg warmers, perhaps. but i don’t think heels with socks is so great. i have no idea how anyone could pull that off.

I know what you’re talking about and while I’d never have the courage to do it, I think it would look cute if you did it the right way. I think the longer and chunkier the heel the better. Maybe even a high heeled Mary Jane in red or black with really thin white stretchy socks with lace or something and I’d fold it down. I actually saw something similar in a high fashion magazine. Try this website too…it says that black socks under black heels are really chic! Good luck and kudos for trying something new!

Unlike everyone else, that look is going in style, with higher fashion, at least.
Like Hayley in Paramore:

You can see it there. You have to be young and kind of innocent looking to pull it off. And Only with black heels. It’s definitely a look for dressing up. In this case, the socks look great but I’ve seen a ton of models try it and they can’t pull it off. You have to be skinny and probably short too, because that adds to the cute and young factor.
Mary Janes would look good. Chunky heels.

the only time it looks good is when your wearing knee high socks with high heels and a mini skirt or a skirt that falls above the knee with a short sleeve sexy button up shirt, fitted t shirt,or a baby doll top.
