Question–: I want to lose 50 pounds by september 5th using the all fruit and veggie diet. Any advice?
My doctor said it was fine, and to go ahead with it. I was just wondering if anyone could give me advice from experience, also the pros and cons of doing a diet like this.
Does it work or should I forget it all together?

The only advice I would have would be to make sure you buy some good quality multi-vitamins to supplement your new diet. Good luck!
Answer by pilon
Make sure you take a multi vit with the diet. Avoid fruits at night.

AND IY WORKS !!!

Your doctor should be helping you specifically on what you should be doing on this diet plan of yours, NOT just telling you to go for it. If you want to be smart about it, ask for a referral for a nutritionist.
But my fiance swears by the grapefruit juice diet. Unsweetened and multiple glasses per day.
Answer by JillieBoe
That doesn’t sound very healthy, or like something that you’d be able to maintain. Try weight watchers and working out. It’s healthier and you’ll still be able to eat normal things, so there’s no need to binge and cheat on your diet. Honestly, could you imagine eating JUST fruit and veggies for months at a time? As soon as you went off the diet you’d gain the weight you’d lost back. A sensible diet and exercise will work much better. : )

MAKE SURE TO EAT NUTS OR SOMETHING FOR PROTEIN (THE BRAIN NEEDS IT FOR THOUGHT ) YOU CHOSE A VERY HEALTHY DIET JUST FIND SOMETHING TO FILL IN FOR PROTEIN . GOOD LUCK

I did this diet and lost 10 pounds when I had no weight to lose. I am not sure how rigorous you plan on being in regards to non-processed foods and alcohol but they make a big difference.
Some exciting all fruit vegi items to get you through include chili (the more peppers the better), raisins carrots with a little lemon, dried fruit.
Also make sure to drink a lt of water throughout the diet. The first week will be the hardest, but as time goes on you will be amazed at your energy level and the lack of hunger you feel.
Best of luck

Buy or read The Diet For Teenagers Only and it will tell you everything you need to know in easy terms. Yes it says teenagers but it is an awesome book. I bought it for my daughter when she wanted it and she made me read it so I knew what was going on. The info in it is awesome.

Cut out sugar ( in coffee, tea ,on cereal) cut out candy (sweets) cakes, cookies, cream fry ups.
Follow a sensible low fat diet.
Do an hour of cardio exercise sensibly 4 times a week
Avoid starvin yourself, crash diets, supplements

I only eat when I’m hungry and eat smaller portions. This has actually saved me money because I’m buying less food. I have leftovers all the time. Cut a resturaunt porton in half and eat half of it. When you take the other half home you will have another meal. Oh and you do need to have some excersize a few times a week.

If you reach your weight like that, it wont actually be healthy. In fact, if you’re using the BMI to determine your ideal weight, it might be devastating to your health.
Anyway, any number of these diets can help you lose weight, but losing weight isn’t necessarily healthy. In fact if you’re somewhat overweight but you exercise regularly, you’re going to be much healthier than a skinny person who doesn’t. I know a guy who’s not near an ‘ideal’ weight, but he has a rushing heart rate of 50. For a while the doctors thought something was wrong with him, turns out his cardio is just amazing.
So if you want to get to that weight, it would be best if you did it through permanent lifestyle changes. If you just go on erratic diets and keep vacillating your weight, you’ll actually find it to be rather unhealthy. If you actually stayed at a weight that was higher than you’d like but was consistent, and exercised regularly, you’d be much healthier than with sporadic dieting. Of course, exercise may help you lose weight, but that all depends on certain genetic predispositions, it also may not.
Also, 5’7 and 160 pounds? That doesn’t sound like you need to lose weight at all. Are you trying to be a Victoria’s Secret model? I went into one of those stores, turns out the secret was the profit margin.

exercise, exercise, exercise!!!!
If you cannot bring yourself to do a cardio workout in a gym or your home… take brisk walks every day. 20-30 minutes 3-5 x’s per week will get your metabolism going and you are guaranteed to slim down.
Trust me, I did it.

Excercise. Do resistance training to add muscle. Make sure you’re getting protein of some sort.
Weight lost through extreme or unsound eating practices tends to come back.
Check out “Body for Life” (google it.) I’ve added a few of their ideas to my effors and have had great results in just a few days. I don’t eat until an hour after I’ve worked out in the morning, (and not at all before) and I am following their suggested routine for my cardio days. I’m also eating six small meals a day from 200-300 calories.
good luck.

you shouldn’t focus on any major food groups you should eat a well balanced diet and exercise don’t leave the table starving but not completley full if you have a hard time burning calories also if you have a problem breaking down fats eat low fat foods but not fat free. Fat is a nutrient with a mighty punch. also watch out for transfat that’s the one that clogs arteries

Be your own trainer and nutritionist, the basic rules to losing weight are no soda, no fast food, lots of chicken, fish, fresh (not canned that’s bad) fruits and vegies, whole wheat stuff, yogurt. Not so many cakes and donuts and cookies. Basic common sense for eating, you just need to enforce it. Get all the bad stuff out of the house right away, just toss it or give it away while your still motivated. No alcohol and no smoking if that applies. Some juice but make sure its all natural, because the ones that aren’t are loaded with sugar and a leading cause in diabetes in children and adults. Lots of water, 3-4 liters a day, not all at once, but spread it out. Its really easy to down a liter or two while your watching tv or on the computer. Also drink some after you eat the bigger meals of the day, it helps your body pick out the nutrients in food when your food is more spread apart. You also need to stay away from any sports drinks unless you’ve just had a long workout and then you need to limit yourself. Most atheletes mix Gatorade with water because its two complex for your body to get all the nutrients out of. It needs to be diluted. These rules may be hard to adapt to at first so start with cutting out the things you know you can live without. Then work from there. Remember these are perfect eating habits, it can take you a while to work into it. If you know you can’t live without your one treat a day, don’t fight it by trying to eat something else, just eat it and make sure that’s the only one you cheat on a day. Otherwise you’ll get depressed and quit. Another important point is getting the right amount of sleep every night. You need 8-9 hours of sleep each night for your body to function correctly. This is an important factor of losing weight. Set up a routine for yourself and go to bed at about the same time each night.
As for exercise, lots of cardio. Find something you like. If you have never exercised much before, start with walking 30 minutes a day at a brisk pace. Move on to different terrains that include hills and increase the time spent. After a week or two, try jogging the route. No matter what find an activity you enjoy. Walking to jogging is just an example, try hiking, rollerblading, biking. Once you get into a regular routine, if your not happy with the level of difficulty, try signing up with a gym. Spinning, pilates or kickboxing classes are great. It will also introduce you to working with weights. Talk to a trainer for instruction before using any weights. A cheap investment is a balance ball, it works you stomach while your just sitting on it, like at your computer and its great for posture. There are hundreds of exercises you can use it for for your entire body. I can give you some ideas if you want, just email me. Also for more info on the benefits of water go to http://www.watercure.com Good Luck! Krista is full of crap:
“Some juice but make sure its all natural, because the ones that aren’t are loaded with sugar and a leading cause in diabetes in children and adults. ”
BS. Natural juices have sugar also. And there’s no proven link between juice and diabetes.
“Lots of water, 3-4 liters a day, not all at once, but spread it out. Its really easy to down a liter or two while your watching tv or on the computer.”
More BS. No proof that drinking water is helpful. All this is good for is making you pee a lot.
“Also drink some after you eat the bigger meals of the day, it helps your body pick out the nutrients in food when your food is more spread apart.”
WHAT?? This is total crap. There is NO evidence to support this BS. (where does she get this?) Your body does NOT need extra water to “pick out” nutrients. What an absurd concept.
“You also need to stay away from any sports drinks unless you’ve just had a long workout and then you need to limit yourself. Most atheletes mix Gatorade with water because its two [sic] complex for your body to get all the nutrients out of. It needs to be diluted. ”
More crap and BS. The science behind Gatorade has been going on for 30 years and there’s NO evidence of any “need” to dilute it. It works just fine as-is. Again, your body does NOT need extra water to “pick out” nutrients.
Don’t take diet advice from uneducated 19 year olds. It’s full of myth and folklore, sadly lacking in truth and science.
