Q&A–: What should I expect in a retail shoe store?
I’m 16 and I have just been offered a job to work at The Athletes Foot. I volunteered at a couple of places but I don’t have much retail experience. What should I expect out of the retail shoe business?

I work in retail.

A great many children do NOT require their children behave in a socially acceptable manner. The parent will be busy trying on shoes while the child tries to destroy as much of the stock as possible.

Some people really are CLUELESS. I ask would you go to a grocery store to buy lumber?

An amazing number of people steal.

A ridiculous number of people pickup stuff and HIDE it in other parts of the store.

Say Good morning or good afternoon or good evening to everyone! Say Welcome to _____ to everyone! Say thank you for shopping at _______ to everyone!

Nike opened their 66,500-square-foot Niketown New York in 1996 on a site formerly occupied by the Bonwit Teller department store and later, after its demise, by Galeries Lafayette. The existing building was demolished to make way for a five-story building with a French department store-style central lightwell. With its brick facade and arched windows, the store intentionally bears a resemblance to an old-fashioned Manhattan school gymnasium, albeit with an extravagant Art Deco leaning.

Nike, Inc. is a major American supplier of athletic shoes, apparel and sports equipment. The company emerged out of Blue Ribbon Sports who started making shoes under brand name of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, with the trademark swoosh and recruiting athletes to endorse their shoes in the 1970s. By 1979 Nike held the patent on "Air" type cushioning for the soles of their shoes. In 1980 Nike went public as an independent company, and in 1981 Blue Ribbon Sports merged into Nike, creating Nike, Inc. Nike, the largest sportswear supplier in the world, markets its products under its own brand as well as Nike Golf, Nike Pro, Air Jordan, Team Starter, and subsidiaries including Bauer, Cole Haan, Hurley International and Converse.

People would expect to find moldy bread there.

  2. That’s just plain bad taste, dear. Who would want to shop at a place called “The Yeast Infection?” Not good advertising copy and a good play of words(semantics). The title “The Athlete’s Foot” differs a little from just plain “Athlete’s Foot; “by placing the gerund “the” we are supposed to be focused on the adjective “athlete” which describes the word”foot.”Everyone wants to fancy themselves in-shape and athletic,so advertisers think that we’ll all go to a store that describes itself as a place where athletes go to get their shoes.

Oh come on Chaos. You can do better than that!

Athlete’s have feet. An athlete’s foot needs foot wear. “The Athlete’s Foot” is a store for athletic feet, not fungus infections.

    Don’t take things so literally!

I am a very literal person and my feet feel itchy just walking by Athlete’s Foot. I have never been able to shop there. My favorite lingerie shop is the whore barn but that is only because I feel so at home.
